Re: BSA troop looses everything to arsonists

I suspect whether you are covered by your CO's policy will depend on their
specifics. Its like the problem I have where I work - some kids get good and
buy extremely expensive musical instruments and mom and dad want to insure it.
Some companies require a separate rider for the instrument, others cover it
under homeowners unless it is used "professionally" (A term we've argued with
several companies over -is the kid a professional when he is paid to play once
or is he a professional when he joins the musicians union and gets paid all
the time? And is a scholarship a paid playing position?). Your gear is
probably the same.

Not only your gear, but your trailer should be covered IF the CO has an auto
policy.

Beware of things where the men's club of a church is the CO, however, as they
have no insurance, the church does, and whether or not you would be covered
under the church policy would again, depend on their coverage or even the
church by-laws.

And when you go to the CO offer up front to have the unit pay for a rider if
necessary so they don't feel you're pressuring them or using them. And
whatever they decide, make sure a complete inventory (not "3 Patrol boxes with
gear") is added to their records at least once a year.
