I helped to make neckerchiefs for my previous troop -- over 60 total.
After you have decided what color your troop wants, go to a local fabric
store, ask to see the selection of polyester/cotton blends. OR visit the
fabric store and buy a sample of each color available. Most large
fabric stores will have numerous colors available for about 2.50 to 3.00
per yard. On 60" width fabric I was able to get about 4 neckerchiefs
per 1.5 yards (the magic is in the fold). You need to experiment there.
This task wasn't hard. We had another mother in the troop who had a
serger who agreed to finish the neckerchiefs. We ordered patches that
were then sewn on to the fabric. If you decide to silkscreen you can do
that yourself as well. I would think that you would have mothers or
dads in the troop that would be able to help with this project without
having to pay someone.
