I started to post an extract dealing with the Eagle Palms "contest"
from _Patches_and_Pins_, but I've just got my email working again
here in the officeroom and I don't want to "jink it" yet!
I'm waiting on some new software that will make my emailing easier
since I'm using one set of programs to do the emailing and another
to do the archiving in. It will be nice, from what I've heard
about it....but then, I heard that Windows 95 would be nice too!!

Anyways, Cary, the deal with the Eagle Palms when I was growing up
was that if you've earned THREE, that was more or less a "slap in
the face" of those other Eagle Scouts out there....you didn't do
your best!
I've SEEN Scouts with two Silver Palms(representing 30 merit badges
over Eagle, a goal which I almost attained if it wasn't for that
18th year of birth thing!), three Silver Palms, and four Silver
Palms. I think one of our listmemebers' son has earned close to his
FIFTH Silver Palm (representing 75 merit badges over Eagle!)
recently!!
What I haven't seen but heard of was a Scout that earned ALL of the
merit badges available back in the late 80s, something like 143 or
so. I've never seen a Scout with more than four Silver Palms
either (but I may soon!!!!)
