Summer Camp Warning

This is to anyone that has planned their summer camp this year at Camp
Rainey Mountain in the Northeast Georgia Council. Our Troop checked in on
Sunday only to find out that they had no record of our Scouts class
schedules. It took to midnight to reschedule them into what was left of
classes that they did not want. We found out that there was a folder of
paperwork that someone from their council office did not take to the camp.
I have spent many hours on the phone this evening trying to calm angry
parents because all the boys are calling home complaining. They are having
to take classes such as basketry and leatherwork. This is fine maybe for
first year campers but the majority of this group are Star and Life. All of
the sudden our boys are having terrible homesickness, and these are boys
that have never had a problem.
Anyone going to this camp I advise you to call at least a week ahead and
make sure that the camp, not just the office, has your schedule. I would
hate to see this same thing happen to another group.
It also turns out that they had lost 8 Troops schedules in all for this
week. Maybe I'm just stupid but didn't someone think it was odd that there
were 8 Troops coming to camp that they had no schedules for? All it would
have taken is a phone call. In the 10 years I have been preparing the
paperwork for our Troop to go to Summer Camp this is the first time anything
like this has happened. I dearly hope this is an isolated case. Needless
to say though, our Troop will not be going to one of their camps again for a
long time.
