For Linda: You don't need the Bear Patch to get the AOL Award. You DO
however, need to earn the Webelos Badge to get the AOL. A Scout can join
at any time and go on to earn the AOL.

In our Pack, we graduate scouts to the next level in May. We do, however,
allow some grace period in the summer to finish up badgework that has been
begun.. Others on the list have posted that they do something similar.

I would not, however, encourage a Bear to spend a lot of time in the
summer doing electives for arrowpoints, but rather have him begin on the
WEbelos Activity pins, beltloop requirements for Sportsman, religious
requirements for the webelos badge, Fitness requirements for Athlete and
the Fitness Pins. There is so much to do for Webelos (especially if you'd
like every Scout to have at least a shot at our Council "worked all 20"
award) that the Bear just turned Webelos I will start off behind. And I'm
finding once they get behind their peers, you either lose them or its very
difficult to catch them up.
