Re: Leader's Eagles

It has been my experience that very few make Eagle without support from the
family. Those that do, usually are exceptional people or have support
from the extended family (read that, the unit). While earning the Eagle
Scout Award is an individual effort, "The Scout has to do it.", someone has
to coach and teach the Scout to do those things he does not yet know. Many
Scouts also need the push and encouragement to stay the course. I believe,
that earning the Eagle Scout Award, in itself is a lession in what you can
achieve if you stay the course and finish. You can also learn how easy it is
to do this, finish and reach the goal. So I like to believe that the
encouragement received from the family is an important part of the learning
process provided by earning the Eagle Scout Award.

We see a lot of support from family members who are not registered, as well
as from family members that are. Being registered and active with the unit
helps, but being there and supporting your son seems to be the critical
link that really helps. Just do not nag him to dealth, teenagers do not
like to do what they are told is best for them :-D
