Swimming Update

Thanks to all who responded. The results were 23 to 3 in favor of my
point of view. I printed and discussed the results with my friend and
he now agrees that a Scout who swims the First Class portion has, as a
result, satisfactorily demonstrated the Second Class in-water portion.
This became more than academic as we recently had a boy do exactly that
at Summer Camp. Thanks again to the List!
BTW, for those who indicated concern about my saying "...jumps into the
water...", I was speaking colloquially. I did not LITERALLY mean
"jump."
My $.02: It would make things a lot less confusing if they just used
the standard BSA "Beginner" and "Swimmer" tests for the 2nd and 1st
Class swim requirements.
