Re: Philmont conditions

My son called from Philmont base camp. Conditions are drought, boys hitting
the trail with 4 quarts of water, some water pickup points dry. Drought for
past several months; no indication that conditions will change short-term
Steve had to purchase a 4th water bottle at Philmont; he only left with
three. I believe that his crew intends to rely primarily on Polar Pure
(iodine purification) , because the low water increases sediment content
which clogs filters. (Please don't start another water purification
debate - I have read much of the literature, and I wind up back at "If it's
good enough for Philmont...")
