Re: Homesickness...

In my troop we have a rule that you cannot call home until Wednesday, and
then only if you "really need it." We've never had any great problem with
homesickness (atleast not in the last 5 years), but when we do our SM
simply 'assigns' one or two older scouts to go talk to the scout, brighten
his spirit, and remind him that just because it's rained for the last two
days it doesn't mean that EVERY campout will be rained on.

In regard to mail, we usually don't get a lot (I would think this might
work the same way as the 'no phone' thing does - can't get a letter with
mom saying how much she misses you, etc). I got a letter once at Webelos
camp, but that was it - and few of us ever write home. Don't write from
camp, didn't write or call from the Jamboree, didn't even call or write
from Japan! But I guess that's a personal preference...
