Lisa, I think you missed some valuable information from the original
post. It is not the fact Mom was there that was causing the trouble, it
was what she was doing. By making his bed, folding his dirty laundry,
driving three hours to bring a pillow, bringing a special drink,
pampering, coddling and, yes, smothering the boy, she was undermining
Scouting's efforts to challenge him and help him grow. By all means, I
would consider any dad that behaved like this just as big a problem.
I wish I had a solution for Joe. I can't think of any that improve on
the posts of others. But I did feel a need to set it straight that I,
at least, would view a "Father Hen" just as negatively.
