Re: Inappropriate Songs

I've been following the thread on inappropriate songs and I have to say
being a person of faith it does bother me to here boys singing songs that
are a variation of a hymn that I have sung in worship. Some hymn tunes
bring back very special memorys for me. The hymn may have been the
favorite of a loved one that is gone or a hymn sung at a baptism. Also
songs like "God Bless my Underwear" just seem disrespectful to not only God
but also Country....I serviced in the Marine Corps. I'm saying this so
you'll understand where people like me are coming from.

With that being said, I also see that Troops have a character of their own
based somewhat on the leadship of the adults. People sing these songs
because they think they are fun, not because they want to offend someone.
Yes, you could argue that they teach the wrong values but the goes back to
the personality of the troop and how that leadership defines values. My
choice is not to sing the songs that I have a problem with. (When I do sing
I'm pretty loud) I also know that if I had a real problem with a song I
could talk to the other adults, after all these people are my friends and
know what I'm like BC (Before Coffee). My responibility is to carry out
the program as directed by National and I think they give us a lot of
flexibilty, like Chuck Bramlet I don't want to be micromanaged by National.
I kind of get tired of people getting offended for this and that, we need
to be a little more thick skinned and try to establish the values we
believe are right within our local group. I don't believe I should impose
my beliefs on others but I do believe I can live my life in front of them
in a way that, I hope, will have people respect my feelings about things
like this song issue come up.
