My experience (or observation) has been similar to that posted
by Greg Nations.
My daughter was in a Daisy/Brownie/GS Troop from the age of 5 to
13 (when the Troop folded). During this time, the same lady and
her husband were co-leaders. I don't know if they were both "01"
or if she was 01 and he was 02. He was "die hard, live-eat-
breathe" Cub/Boy Scout. She was the same with Girl Scouts. She
was also a Cubber and a Den Mother.
They took the girls camping, and did a lot of outdoor stuff, in
addition to the "girl" stuff. A "father-daughter" campout was a
yearly tradition. One year, it was a canoe trip on the Colorado
River. When the girls got to be Juniors, they reorged the Troop
to look and work like a Boy Scout Troop - SPL, Patrols, Patrol
Leaders, etc.
This Troop got _grief_ big time from the GS Council. At one weekend
event, the Troop was not allowed to participate, because _he_ was
the second leader, and was _not_ permitted to sleep on camp property.
One of my co-workers also expressed some displeasure to me one day
about the trouble that he had to go thru to get registered as a co-
leader with _his_ wife. They practicly accused him of "being on
the prowl".
It is possible that these stories are abberations, and that the _real_
national GS policy is different. But we have watched these things
happen, first hand.
Kelly, you're from my area - have you seen the same with Cactus-Pine?
