Just last night I (along with my wife and two sons, and several adults and
scouts from our troop) completed the American Heart Association CPR course.
Originally, we contacted the local hospital but their CPR courses were full
on the dates we could attend. They suggested the instructor who was very
willing to come to a leader's home and teach a group of 10 people. Cost was
$10/person including book, use of equipment (dummy), and a little for the
instructor.
There is also a Red Cross CPR course. I took it many years ago. I remember
it as more extensive but believe it also included a first aid course. You
can probably get info from your local Red Cross chapter. Co-worker just
said he paid $15 for Red Cross CPR -- four hour session. Our AHA course was
about three hours including practice and demonstration of our skills.
My certification had expired (good for two years) and I was surprised at how
much things had changed since my last course. I recommend frequent
recertification for everyone.
If you can't find a local contact, let me know and I'll find a national
resource you can start with.
