What has worked for us in the past is to go over the parts of the compass,
teach them how to take and follow a bearing, and then to get their pace. Once
you have all those three skills down pat, you can use the Compass Game put out
by National that uses a 100 foot baseline and has the scouts/adults walk three
legs with a bearing and a distance winding up back at the line at a different
location from the start point. The adults and scouts can get pretty intense
when you make learning a fun game. What a concept!! Who would have thought!!
