Re: Male involvement in Cub Scouting

Interesting how the dynamics of units differ. I have never had the problem
of getting Dads involved in Cub Scouting. Indeed, of my 16 Den leaders and
Asst. Den leaders 11 are men. Of the 8 other key pack positions, 5 are men.
Conversely, I tend to encounter more resistance from Moms when filling
leader roles. There seems to be a tendency to perceive Cub Scouting as a
less ambitious version of Boy Scouts with Scout activities designed to
enhance "male bonding".
Nowhere is this more evident than when I occasionally have female leaders
step down or attempt to step down when their Bear dens cross into the ranks
of Webelos so that a male can take it over and do the "camping stuff". I
find it terribly frustrating to have trained and experienced leaders step
out of the picture after spending two to three years building a rapport with
the boys. Does anyone else ever encounter this and how do you handle it?
