Re: Tiger held back in school

My reading of the program is grade-based OR age-based, specifically in
order to take into account those kids who are either moved up or held back
in school.

IMHO, you should allow the "held-back" Tiger to advance to Wolf with his
den & his friends. I also think that exposure to the "more-structured" Wolf
program would benefit him a heck of a lot more than doing the same old Big
Ideas with a bunch of strangers- that way leads to boredom which may spread
throughout the incoming Tigers ("I've done this before!...Why have you done
this before?") This may also lead to the mistaken impression to boy & parent
that progress through Scouting ranks is inexorably tied to performance in
school ("You've failed 1st grade and Tigers too...and now you can't be with
your friends!").

Even if my "reading" is dead wrong, I would think that the benefits of a
happy Cub who stays in Scouts & a happy parent who brings him to Scouts far
outweighs any other consideration.

FYI, my Wolf son probably repeat 2nd grade. He's earned his Wolf Badge.
Will he be in my Bear den? You betcha...a no-brainer!

I'll probably get flames on this one, but so be it. Let me know how it
goes.
