Re: ?? Religious Symbol on CSP!!

Randy Finder brought an interesting historical perspective to us, in that the
flag of the UK incorporates religious connotations stemming from three patron
saints. But the (not so) UK (as northern Ireland and Scotland move towards
autonomy - I suspect I'll be scoulded about that from across the pond) has a
national church which is partially integrated into the royal/political scene.

The fact that a foriegn flag appears on some CSPs is a historical reference,
and nothing more. But, it is, IMO, irrellevant to whether clearly religious
symbolism is incorporated into a BSA patch.

If BSA, under the umbrella of being a private organization, encorporates a
specific religious symbol it further marginalizes itself from the general
population of youth and families it claims to serve. If, on the other hand,
BSA's concern is to assure a religious underpinning, or system of belief, for
those it serves it should accept that peoples have chosen different and
legitimate paths to express those beliefs and not place one above all others.

IMO, the Central N.C. Council patch is an abberation which should not have
occurred, and which should be withdrawn.
