Re: Tiger held back in school

I agree with the person who wrote:

However, and there is always a however, it is not a decision that should be
taken lightly and it should be mutual agreement between the pack and the
family.

First look at the reason the boy was held back. If it is purely academic,
then he can probably advance with his "current" (keep this word in mind) peer
group. If it is for emotional, developmental, and/or maturity reasons,
chances are that the boy is not ready to move on to a more challenging program
and he will not succeed in the Wolf program. This will continue to get worse
and the chances of the boy completing Cub Scouts is small because he would not
feel like he fit in. In this case it would be better to either repeat Tigers,
or skip a year and come into Wolf when he is in the second grade (I prefer the
repeat option)

Second, the parents argue that he would miss his peers. Well those are his
current peers, some of whom will remain godd friends, but he will develop a
new set of peers when he repeats the first grade, and he will have to work
within that group also.

There is no simple answer. I have seen in done both ways over the years.
