Female Leaders

My experience in my community has been this:

1) Many women have told me that they would like to have men
as leaders in Scout Troops if at all possible.

2) Many times, it is not possible to recruit adult male leaders.

On the one hand, I think it is much easier for boys to develop into
responsible men and fathers if they have adequate male role models.
They are highly unlikely to get these role models from the
various entertainment options offered to them. I have often
countered men who have told me they can't help because they
don't know what to teach the boys. I tell them that they will
teach their sons the most important lesson of all: that a father
teaches his sons.

But if men won't, women must. There are two Troops in my
immediate vicinity that are or were lead by female Scoutmasters.
If it was not for these women, these Troops would not have had
leaders. They are Wood Badge trained and do (or have done) an
excellent job.

What boys need is adults who are willing to get training and keep
their best interests at heart. I think it's best for the boys if
there are men involved in this, but they need trained, willing
adults regardless of gender.
