First of all may all have a good Memorial Day weekend, and a great start
of summer.
In the past 10 days over 30 messages have come on the list regarding
Females on Camp Outs, everybody with pro or a con on the matter.
Let me throw in my two cents. In M=E9xico Scouting runs a little
different than in the US, here we have a Group, which has, now, eight
different sections. Cubs, Scouts, a senior Scout section, and Explorers,
both male and female.
Back in my days of Scoutmaster, before the days of the female sections,
our Scout troop had two types of camp outs, one nighters and longer
trips. Usually the one nighters were mostly the patrols or maybe the
troop. But the longer ones had the whole troop. In our Group we had for
many many years one or two wife's, usually the Scoutmasters, who went on
these camp outs. Let me tell you that throughout the years there was
never any trouble having these ladies on up-to-a-week camp outs. Matter
of fact today, many of those Scouts are married and comment how the
"mothers" helped in the camp outs.
I don't think that having women Scout leaders on a trip will in any way
hurt any Scout. In one of the last messages posted there was a comment
about the necessity of living and working together with women. Heck, a
Mother is always around the house, and just because of that the boys in
the family don't have any problems.
My opinion is that if BSA accepts it, it should be done, it can be very
helpful, and in no way harmful, of course there will always be troops
that will not want this help (because believe it or not they do help out
in the field) but let them suffer by not having this assistance.
