Not without the consent of the SM, she won't.

>>that is bad enough, but she is also insisting that she be allowed to go on
the camping trips.

For goodness sakes. What will those uppity women demnad next?!? Does the
phrase "20th century" ring a bell? Maybe she is insisting on being an SA so
she cannot be stopped from going on camp-outs. If so , you have an
information problem - MCs can go on camp-outs, too!

>>the boys have decided that they do not want a woman on their
>> trips ...

Too bad. The boys do not make administrative decisions. They also do not
decide national BSA policy. The phrase is "boy-run, adult-led". The adults
have to show some leadership here. Actually, I suspect they have. More than
likely, the "no women" policy originated with the adults, who are using the
boys as smoke screen.

My two best MCs are women. One of my three best SAs ( I have 13) is a woman.
Thank God for "strong-willed" women. My program would be poorer without
them.

Bottom line - no one can "self-appoint" themselves as an SA - that is one
issue. I would be unlikely myself to appoint both a husband and wife as SAs
in my unit. Not due to gender bias, but just because I would rather spread
things around - one SA, one MC.

But this unit cannot block a women from participating in the program simply
because she is a woman. And if she feels strongly enough about the issue to
pursue it, the unit will lose. The discrimination is contrary to BSA policy.
