If you were not walking out of sight before, then you were going
WAY TOO close to the campsite and tents! I prefer not having to
smell drying urine when I'm sleeping in my tent.
Any ladies wondering about acceptance when they cross over to
Boy Scouts, take heart with what's been said already: it's an
individual thing. When my wife took her Webelos den camping
as the WL, the boys and ALL of the DADS had no problem letting
her lead the way. She was trained and organized. Being an Army
Major and a battalion commander didn't hurt either. When I arrived
Saturday morning to relieve her so she could go to her weekend
drill, I was greeted by the other dads with "we want her to stay".
The following summer she was the only leader with the troop that
stayed the entire week of summer camp. The SM couldn't go because
of a new job. The boys were happy to have her experience and training
that week.
Now that I'm SM, she doesn't get to go camping as much because someone
has to stay behind with our 9-year old. Haven't been able to convince
any
of the other moms to go camping with the troop :-(
