Golden Eagle

A little while back someone asked about the "Gold Eagle". Several people,
myself included, assured them there ain't no such beast.
Well, tonight I picked up my son's copy of the Centennial Edition of D. C.
Beard's "The American Boy's Handy Book". In the forward (by Noel Perrin),
page vi, it says of Beard "At any rate, he and he alone holds the Golden Eagle
badge - and so is the highestof all eagle scouts". So, it appears there is
one. Anyone know any more about this?
The inside front cover has a way cool picture of Beard & B-P - both very old,
both wearing the Silver Buffalo. Beard also wears an Eagle medal, but the
picture is B&W, so I don't know if it's gold or not.
