I agree with Kelly.

The BSA (or some of it's leaders) get so hung up on doing things by the book.
Like Kelly stated, each boy is differant. You have to work with each boy to
see what motivates him, and how you can help him to excel. If it means a
little extra time, and effort to help him complete his achievements, then so
be it.

We work on a number of our achievements at Den Meetings. I know that is not
the way that things "should be" done. Most leaders say it is the boys /
parents responsibility to complete the achievements at home. With all of my
boys coming from households where both parents have full time jobs, and
commute each day, I feel I need to do my best to help them complete as many
achievements / electives as we can during meetings. I just make sure that the
meetings don't get boring. I mix in fun activities, with the serious stuff.
There are also several achievements that must be completed by the family. I
strongly encourage the parents to help their sons complete these achievements
if they want their son to progress with the rest of the Den. All of the boys
in my den recieved their Wolf badge, 3-7 arrow points, and several earned
World Conservation Award (all in a 6 month time period). All of them have also
learned to LOVE scouting this year!

Remember...we're doing it for the boys!
