Where to put SPL

Our troop has just elected a young SPL--thirteen and first class. In the
olden days, when there was the "leadership corps" that solved the problem
of boys with troop positions in patrols. This SPL is still in a patrol,
and, because he is SPL, he wants to be in charge all the time, and the PL
is letting him. We are working with both (the troop junior leader training
is next month), but are thinking of things that might also "visually"
stimulate the difference with this young man. We have toyed with putting
him in the Venture Crew (asking the PLC to pass a new troop rule that the
SPL is a Venture for the time that he is SPL, at least), so that he is
still in a patrol, but with older boys, all of whom have troop positions.
Any other thoughts?
