Leslie Herman asks whether there are any restrictions or rules for those
attending and presenting a flag retirement/burning ceremony planned for a
Cub/Parent camping event. I know of none so long as the ceremony is done in a
dignified and respectful manner.
For the past two years I've hosted such a ceremony at our District Cub-Parent
Weekend as the closing feature of the evening campfire program. We've retired
several very large flags this way by cutting them into individual squares
before hand and at the conclusion of the ceremony we invite kids and parents
to each take a flag remnant and place it on the fire as they leave in silence.
This has proven to be a memorable part of the weekend festivities.
