I understand the boys' reluctance to wear uniforms...but how to work around it?
I'm a recently retired Cubmaster (now Scoutmaster *quiver of fear*) and I started
encouraging the little guys to wear their uniforms on pack meeting days...and yes,
I heard through the boy-grapevine that some of the kids had some trouble -
finger-pointing, etc. I didn't back off, but worked with the kids I knew best to
encourgage them all to wear their uniforms together...strength in numbers, you
know. The next step (and in retrospect, probably should've been the first) was a
pack T-shirt. I duly authorized this as a Class B uniform, and I started wearing
it whenever I went to any school function that didn't require dress-up - kids'
fairs, late reading nights in the gym, etc.. The kids don't think T-shirts are as
uncool as a scout uniform and started wearing them for everything - and yes, I saw
some pretty sad T-shirts by the end of the year...but they were sad cuz they were
worn. It's a logical step from there to the good uniform...
