Scouts leaving...What to do?

I submit for the wisdom of the list!

We have been working for about a year to hold onto this one scout.
Although he is somewhat involved in soccer, I believe peer presure is his
biggest reason for not coming to scouts. He attended camp last summer and
he seems to enjoy the meetings and outings.

This week after the PL checked to see if he was coming to camporee, the
scouts friend came to the meeting and told me the scout was quitting.

My question for the list...What should I/We do?

My first reaction was to write the scout a letter, detailing the reasons
why I thought he enjoyed scouts, peer pressure, etc.

My next was to have the Spl do something like that.

My third reaction was to say "we cannot save them all"

He is extremely well behaved, but was never gung ho about advancement.

The scouts family although not involved weekly has been supportive and Mom
is willing to help when asked (dad had a neurological problem a few years
ago and although I have encouraged him to participate he is still not sure
of himself and shy) I always felt that if I could get dad involved it
would help the scout.

So what does the wisdom of the list think?

Should the troop pursue him in some fashion?

Or should we wish him well and let him know we are there if he ever wants
to come back?
