Re: alternatives to Philmont - High Adventure Canoe and Hikin

Space still available at Rollins Pond High Adventure Canoe Base at Floodwood
Mountain Scout Reservation. It is in the Saranac Lake Region in the Adirondacks
of New York State which is absolutely beautiful countryside. There is access to
a few hundred miles of lakes and streams so a 50 mile afloat is easy to do with
minimal portage.

I know of more than a few scouters and scouts who have been to both Philmont and
Floodwood and prefer Floodwood because of ease of travel for those on the East
Coast, cooler temperatures, and more canoeing opportunities, but I feel that a
scout should try to go to both if he can. This year our Troop secured a
reservation at SeaBase but we plan to be up in Floodwood in Summer of 1999.

Cost this year is $195 per scout in a Troop, $205 per scout without a troop.
Adult leaders go free if troop has 6-11 scouts, otherwise leaders are $75 a
week. Camp runs for 6 weeks from July 5th through August 15th in one week
increments.

E-mail me with your fax number and I will fax 3 pages of info or write to:
Bergen Council, 22-08 Route 208 South, Fair Lawn, NJ 07410

If your troop is seriously interested, e-mail me your phone number and I will
have some real Floodwood experts call you to answer all of your questions about
the program.

YIS,
Bob Taschler
