Matt

Go to a good book store and check out the back country cook books. I've got
several that I really like including "The Hungry Hiker's Book of Good Cooking"
by Gretchen McHugh, "The One Burner Gourmet" by Harriet Baker, "The
Supermarkety Backpacker" by Harriet Baker, "The One Pan Gourmet" by Don
Jacobson, "Cooking the One Burner Way" by Melissa Gray and Buck Tilton, and
The NOLS Cookbook. Browse each one before you buy one. Some cookbooks
require dried food material that is hard to obtain in small quantities. I
personally like the Hungry Hiker's Bood of Good Cooking. I've had some
marvelous meals from that.

You may also try using one of the Lipton Noodle side dishes. We ran an event
like this for our district camporee this month. Take one package of Lipton
dinner noodles or rice, add a 6 ounce can of meat, tuna, or chicken; and add
spices as necessary. It serves two. My favorite is the Lipton Alfredo
noodles. As you boil the water, add green beans so they soften. Add the
Alfredo mix using dry milk and butter buds. Just before the noodles are done,
add slices of chipped beef (the salty flavor compliments the Alfredo).
Sprinkle slivered almonds on top and you are ready to eat.
