Definitely an acknowledgement of history, and I think you'll find that
quite a few Scout groups do that. For that matter, in Scouts Canada on a
national level, one of the requirements for advancing beyond investiture
is to know the history of the flags that have flown over Canada. This all
goes back to that wise man who once said "He who does not know history is
doomed to repeat it." Even black marks in the United States' history,
such as the Civil War, should be known to all...lest the nation repeat
that tragedy all over again. I think that too many American citizens have
lost sight of their history, and that's why prejudice and discrimination
is on the rise in the United States again...
