When I became an Eagle Scout, my mother and father reluctantly attended the
Eagle Court of Honor. They did not see the "importance" in attending since
the month before, I convinced them to drive to Louisville to attend the
Council's Roundup Dinner so that I could recieve an award from the Council
(the second Young American Award).

My Godsister (a close friend from high school, not my girlfriend at that
time) convinced my parents that this was more important than anything else
they would attend -- at least until I graduate from high school. For
Cyndi, I purchased one of those Eagle necklaces and gave it to her before
Thanksgiving break. She still treasures this.

The parent with the Scout presently as well as the biological parent
deserves to get the same Eagle mother's pin during the Eagle Court of Honor.
My opinion is that if you don't do this, one or the other mother will be
upset and her feelings hurt -- and that can last for years. However,
there's NOTHING that prevents the Scout (and the Troop it it's inclined to
do so) from purchaing a necklace or other Eagle Scout item and presenting it
to "Mom" either in private, during a regular Court of Honor, or at some
other occasion.

The additional items available for purchase by Eagle Scouts, their families
and the unit to which they belong, are designed to be presented to literally
anyone. While "Eagle Protocol" would say "give both biological and legal
mother the SAME pin", my heart and the heart of just about anyone involved
in such a special event says "if there's someone special that you want to
recognize, do it now or you'll regret doing it later!"

Now, as to whom gets "pinned" first.......*smiling*
