Re: registration cut-off dates

We have been told by our DE that Sam Houston Area Council has gone to a per
event insurance policy and that they must have an exact count on attendees by a
cut off date for the event to be insured. He also stated that several other
councils have begun doing the same thing. If this is the case then there will
be quite a few scouts missing out on major events due to parents waiting until
the last minute.

IMHO there are a lot of parents that wait until the last minute to see if they
have anything else to do. If they do then Johnny doesn't get to go. This has
been a problem with some of my scouts in the past. I even had a couple of
scouts (brothers) drop from the unit because their parents were too busy. The
biggest issue here was that the parents weren't involved as leaders anyway. We
lost a couple of very good scouts this way. It has always been our policy that
if a scout doesn't have transportation, etc. we would be more than glad to
arrange it for them.

Subject: registration cut-off dates

We are using registration cut-off dates and getting flack from our SE when
we try to adhere to them.
