A Reintroduction and some questions

Hi,
After several months of frustration wandering in the cyber woods, its great to be
back at the virtual campfire.
I previously worked for an "american online service" for several years and left after
their sense of values (does the customer *really* matter?) and mine (The Scout Oath
and Law) no longer were in alignment.
I am a Cubmaster with a Pack in Herndon, Virginia. I also coordinate Cub Scout Leader
Basic and Supplemental Training for my District. It's about Supplemental Training
that I wish to get the collective wisdom of the list.
1. I get a number of comments from people that they wonder why they should go to
Supplemental Training since as the program currently stands they get no credit towards
a training award. Are there plans in the future to give people an incentive (like
a knot?) for attending Supplemental Training?
2. Anyone out there running Supplemental Training having any success in getting
people to attend? Our best success to date is where we have experienced leaders
carpool with new pack leaders, run a QLU session for the experienced leader in the
morning while the new leader is going through Basic, then bring everyone back together
for the split sessions training the new leader and uptraining the veteran in his/her
new job assignment. If anyone has suceess stories, I'd love to hear them.
3. I am also curious about people who have split or reorganized their districts
recently. The District I'm in will be split into four smaller ones. I hope that
the people here can share their collective wisdom on how to survive a District re-org.
It's great to back at the campfire that never ends; could someone pass the marshmallows?
YIS,
George Costigan
