snow saws

As a way of introduction, I have been lurking for a couple of months now.
Fortunately, you at the list normally encounter most of my problems and
have various solutions before i run into them so i have not had to post
before.
I am an ASM with Troop 1502 in Poulsbo, Wa; former cubmaster and former
Webelos leader and current Tiger Cub partner.
My problem is locating a suitable low-cost alternative for a snow saw. Our
troop does a yearly snow outing on Rainier. This year one of the other
leaders and myself are either going to impress the Scouts with an igloo, or
embarass ourselves and end up in a tent if it doesn't work. Made my trek
over to the Seattle REI store today to look for a snow saw. Much to my
chagrin, they were about $45 dollars. A bit pricey for a once per year
event. So i look to the knowledge of the members of the list to let me know
what alternatives you have come up with that can substitute for a snow saw.
We should have in the realm of 12-15 ft. of snow, so cutting blocks
shouldn't be a problem.
Thanks in advance
YIS
