I don't think I would push the issue too much, although I am sure there are
others who would not agree with me on this. After all, the Scout needs to
be adequately equipped for camping, and if the only economically feasible
way for his family to accomplish this is with coupon rebates, then that
ought to be good enough for us.

That said, I seem to remember that a popular "Scout camouflage" thing we did
in my youth was to cover equipment with Scouting emblems, such as those on
patches. Although there are times when you need to do some waterproofing
over the stitching, this might not be a bad alternative. I still have a few
backpacks with Scouts Canada and other crests from those long-ago days.

Smoking is getting considerable heat these days, and justifiably so.
However, banning high-quality equipment just because it has some labeling on
it would be going too far, in my opinion. By bringing the fact that this
stuff is available as part of a coupon rebate programme, you may have helped
other economically challenged families equip their kids well.
