Fellow Scouters,

I checked at Blockbuster Video and they rented Follow-Me-Boys for $1.99. We
enjoyed it Christmas afternoon.

Well, I set the alarm. My wife even came to make sure I was up. My new
Scout 10 year old had been up since pre-dawn to check out Santa (REALLY!)
We watched and taped.... It's finally a sunny dawn in central Florida and I
up thinking about this atypical Disney film.

Yeah it had it's smultzy romantic string and it's too simple
subplot here and there, but a few hard twists and subtle (and not so
subtle) examples of kids and people doing and not doing various Scouting
values made it different.

My son commentented on the sadness of the drunk but well meaning
father showing up and Whitey's too soon required maturity (not in those
words...) Reminded me of the young man who wanted to be Cub who came to
sign up night. Dad was pretty well smashed and became real vocal about
some issues. Had to walk out with him and deal with his insecurities. Son
took charge with an experience and maturity with which no 8 year old should
have so proficiently. Tried to find out who and where he was, but there
were 5 unintelligable regisytration cards, any or none of which could have
been his. Never saw the kid again, but he'll always be with me.
It may not be an Oscar winner, but it appears it will make me think
about some things for a while. Kept wondering if "George Bailey" was going
to drop in..... o well better stop

Have a good New Year & keep the faith.
