But they can't (or shouldn't) be professional students either. Clearly,
school SHOULD be of a higher priority than Scouting, but that is something
for the PARENTS to decide. Not every leadership position in a troop would
create additional time demands that would necessarily take away from the
Scout's ability to do his schoolwork. Not every student does better by
spending more time. It is entirely possible that the leadership job in the
Troop will instill in the Scout a sense of responsibility that will carry
over to his schoolwork and that he will do BETTER in school BECAUSE he held
the leadership position.

Every individual is different and arbitrary rules rarely benefit everyone.
All they do is take away the flexibility of the people involved to deal with
each situation individually.
