Re: Academic requirements and leadership

Our troop doesn't use academic requirements for leadership positions.

We have minimum requirements for SPL, 1st Class and age 13, as determined by
the PLC. (The SPL elected has always been far beyond the minimum req.)

My point is that we try to have as few restrictions as possible. I trust
our Scouts to make a good decision and vote for the best people, which
they do year after year.

The more restrictions and qualifications we put on leadership positions,
the more we restrict our Scouts' freedom to excersize their citizenship
within the troop.

There are no educational requirements to be president of the United
States or a member of congress. Why should we make educational requirements
for troop leadership?

Let the boys vote for their leaders using their own standards, not our's.
