My DE is at 1400 and he said that this will probably go to 1500 next year.
As these numbers go up and expenses continue to get shaved and funding gets
more difficult to come by, I predict that the role of the commissioner will
again become a prominant one in Scouting in the U.S.. It should be today, but
I'm not sure that most District Executives have this figured out. My
experience is that most Cubmasters and Scoutmasters can name their DE (and
repeat his phone number) without hesitation, but few can do the same for their
Unit Commish. The professional can not do it all in supporting the above
numbers as they continue to grow. The smart professional will emphasize the
commissioner staff and use them more and more to get things done.
Now I'm looking for an answer to a history question. Hopefully, some of the
more experienced in our group can help me. When did the Unit Commissioner and
Roundtable commissioner replace the field commissioner and neighborhood
commissioner? And when did the Cub Scout Commissioner and Boy Scout
Commissioner positions get introduced? When were they dropped?
