Adult/Leader Patrols

Hi Stephanie

I have seen several Troops with Adult Patrols to set an example. It
probably works but boys act differently standing next to Dad than when
standing out of harms way. We watch our Scouts from a distance. I really
enjoy it because if they do well, I have bragging rights, if they don't,
then we see some areas to work on.

However, I agree watching other people set an example helps a lot. We
learned when a group of adults or older Scouts perform a mock PLC meeting,
Patrol corners or set up an ideal campsite, the Scouts have a starting
point to work from. It helped us, our Patrol corners went a lot better
after we gave a mock Patrol Corners demo. One Scout told me that after
three years, he finally understood what we have been trying to tell him. I
felt stupid that we hadn't done it earlier.

Our young Troop still has a long ways to go but many times I watch the
scouts and wonder "if no adults where around at this moment, how would
these guys be acting?". Our goal is it should not matter.
