accepting cash donations

My pack once had a real problem caused by accepting a cash donation,
because our former district executive popped right up and demanded it (or a
significant portion of it) be handed over to council. Our cubmaster and DE
argued bitterly, and the CM quit. (That is why I am CM.) Later the DE quit
too, although not for this reason.
We were later advised informally to have donors give money in future to our
chartered organization, which could then use it to buy equipment for the
unit.
However, to be fair, our councils are usually in as much need of money as
our units are, so it might be decent to talk to your district executive and
see what portion of the donation it would be proper to give to council.
