Kevin,
I can't remember if I did an answer post to the person or the list so here
I go again (sorry).
My Webelos I did choose a Patrol Emblem, the Eagle, for their uniforms
this year, but we are still retaining the Webelos Denner position. Patrol
leaders are given quite a bit more responsibility and as said here earlier
I don't want this to be an immediate transition into BS type Patrols. I'm
not sure about your boys, but mine are still fairly immature. 9-10 year
olds need responsibility but not too much in large doses. I also do not
agree with the Boys choosing the Denner/Patrol Leader. They still get
their feelings hurt and will tend to choose favorites. I liked someone
elses post saying they did it alphabetically and I just have a name pulled
out of a bag each month for mine. No one knows who it will be.
I may consider moving on to the more Patrol oriented group in year 2 after
they've had some interaction with the Boy Scouts at Summer Camp, and we've
visited the BS Troops, but until then, I just don't think my boys are
quite ready.
