Brian Nielsen had mentioned about Dad and son baking cakes for B&G reminds
me of a yearly fun pack meeting. One of the Packs in El Paso had as the
standard October pack meeting a cake contest where the boys with only dads
help (NO mom or sister assistance) baked a cake (from scratch) and
decorated it. They were judged for best looks, most unusual design, most
unusual shape, etc - everyone got some prize.
Then the fun part was that the cakes were auctioned off - and only boys
could bid on them. Some dads were very insistant that their son buys their
cake so it wouldn't fall into anyone elses hands. A local dentist, who
just happened to be the district chairman at the time, gladly paid the
$200.00 for his Tiger Cubs cake to keep the Cubmasters son from purchasing
it. 8-)
Some mothers did complain about the mess left in the kitchen but all agreed
that it was well worth it when they could have a catered B&G banquet.
