National Den Award#2

AL DEBENEDETTO (alcjjj@CLASSIC.MSN.COM)
Fri, 10 Oct 1997 13:49:42 UT

Earlier I posted a question regarding what a _year_ would be for receiving
this award. I am new in Scouting and as Advancement Chair have been looking
for everything I can to bring into our Pack that we do not take advantage of.
I noticed the National Den Award and rather than presenting it to the
committee thus far, I decided I would post the question here to gather any
info first. The reponses I have received have been most
helpful.............for the most part. I thought the requirements to earn it
would provide DL's with an excellent outline for a great program so I wanted
to bring it to my Pack's committee's attention, if they were not aware of it
(since I never heard of it). I understand now the reason it was implemented
to begin with, to encourage a _year long_ program of Scouting! Excellent
incentive. However, please do not get insulted with someone who is _not_
trying to earn the award for "less than the requirements". That was not my
intent went I posted the question. Why doesn't my Pack run through the summer?
I am not sure. I will ask at the next committee meeting. Do _I_ as a Den
Leader run a quality program from Sept. to May.........yes, I do! Maybe in
others definitions of a quality program I must run 12 months of the year, this
would be ideal, however, of the 6 Scouts in my den, 4 go away for the entire
summer, therefore, the months that we do meet are filled with fun activities,
crafts, ethics in action, service projects, teamwork, peer encouragement,
etc... Yes, it would be great to run the program 12 months of the year, but
please do not tell me I only run a partial quality program because I do not
meet for the 12 months.
I only asked a question due to my inexperience in this program.
Thank you to those who answered my post with the needed information.
