The "board" that judges our sites (which include a couple of non-Scouting
people in addition to some Scouting webmasters) is pretty balanced. I
sent my site in to be evaluated, and it may get an award and it may not. I
am always looking for ways that I can improve what little bit I do, and I
also welcome *other Webmasters* that may want to get together and recognize
websites or pages that offer quality Scouting content.
The Baden-Powell Award is a good recognition, and for those few sites that
meet their criteria, it's well worth the effort. However, what about the
rest of the sites out there??
I had informally contacted some Scouters a couple of years back about the
possibility of a "Quality Website" (similar to the BSA's Quality Unit,
District, Council and Regional award) Award....a simple emblem that changes
color each year and with a standard set of "goals" (not requirements, just
like the Quality Unit Award). There would be one set of goals for unit
pages, another for District pages, yet another for Council pages and finally
one for "all other pages which are not supported or geared to a particular
Council, District or unit".... It was one of eight or so things that
remained on my whiteboard while I was overseas and until two weeks ago, when
I wiped it all clean of all of the stuff that I was working on and couldn't
get finished in the timeperiod I sat out to get it done by.
I would be happy to give to anyone that's interested in "taking the baton
and running with it" the materials that I collected and a sample of the Q
Award (because the BSA uses the Quality Unit award with a specific design, I
created a different graphic that says the same thing but doesn't
specifically address the BSA, since my personal hope is that other youth
groups may want to use this as well). I was planning to do this under the
Leaders' Online umbrella, but again, I don't have the time to devote to it
as I wished I did.
