Re: Rank on Adult Uniforms

Robert,

You didn't miss anything. The adults you observed wearing "Boy" rank
insignia on their uniforms were doing so incorrectly. The Insignia Guide is
very clear on this (All CAPS indicates boldface in original):

"BADGES OF RANK ARE FOR BOYS"

"In Scouting, THE ADVANCEMENT PROGRAM IS INTENDED FOR BOYS ONLY.
Scouters should neither seek awards designed for boys nor wear them on
the Scouter uniform except for square knots representing the Arrow of
Light Award, Eagle Scout Award, Explorer Achievement Award, Quartermaster
Award, or religious emblems earned as a youth member."

Even with this statement added to the Insignia Guide a number of Scouters
contended that for some reason the Eagle patch was exempt and could be
worn. So on page 22 under the graphic of the Eagle patch, the Insignia
Guide now states "Eagle rank, cloth, silver, white, and blue on red. No.
00489, Boy Scout, left pocket. Adults wear square knot, No. 05011."
