Overbearing committies (Born of Jewlery)

Hello all,

As I read and reply to the whole earring/jewlery thread I am reminding
of a trip I once made with a scout troop to Intercamp 1994 in the Czech
Republic. Said troop made up a standard scouting style menu including
large ammouts of kool-aid and other such items we all love to eat/drink
when camping. I was then apaled when I saw a member of the committee going
over the menu and Canexing numerous items based on 'health' value. When I
was a youth member of Scouts I always was tought that you plan it you eat
it, you don't like it don't plan it. (This lesson gets taught the hardway
alot of times.) I almost spoke up about this, but since I was new to the
troop as an ASM I inserted my tounge into my cheek and made sure to add
additional ammounts of certain items that are always in my personal chuck
box :).

Unfortunatly during the latter half of the 90s I feel that the 'Youth run
organization' has been slowly dying. This saddens me alot as one of the
main goals of scouting is to teach leadership. And how can a boy learn
leadership if he gets seconded guessed by a committee every time he turns
around.

(I suppose I'm starting to sound like an 'oldtimer' and I suppose my 14
years as a youth/adult almost qualifies me :) (Yeah yeah yeah I know
there are some real oldtimers out there with more than me ... :))))
