A Sad Day in North Carolina

James A. Sheckels (sheckej@EARTHLINK.NET)
Tue, 23 Sep 1997 21:29:11 -0400

Today in Cumberland County, NC, a North Carolina Highway Patrolman
and a Cumberland County Deputy Sheriff were murdered while performing
their duty as police officers. They were stopping a car with two
criminals fleeing from South Carolina. Neither officer had a chance
against the onslaught wrought by these two men.

Both officers are from the Hope Mills community, where I live. I did
not know the deputy personally, but the patrolman is a member of my
church. His wife is an education counselor at the local senior high
school, his daughter a student at East Carolina University.

Please remember these two wonderful, brave men and their families in
your prayers.
