Just wanted to share some of my experiences with the Announcements song:
I've been on staff in about 25 different camps. The Announcements song
has been used in about 15 of them. Verses vary from location to location
but the ones with three or four verses seem to enjoy it more than those
with a dozen! It's always better when it is spontaneous. In a couple
of camps, the staff initiated the song the first two days of the week but
after that they only joined in if the campers started it first.
In one camp, the program director thought everyone got a kick out of the
song so he intentionally use the a-word. By the end of the week, everyone
was so bored they just quit responding. He got so frustrated he tried to
lead the song himself. Everyone, including staff, gave him a blank stare!
Oh, well, some people just don't get it!!!
In light of our recent (and recurring) discussion on hazing, I wonder if
singing the Announcements song isn't a form of hazing?
